Candida Esophagitis:
Most common cause of infectious esophagitis – other infectious causes include viral and granulomatous.
  • Causes of esophagitis: reflux, infectious, caustic, drugs, XRT, dermatologic (epidermolysis bullosa, pemphigoid), GVHD, Behcet’s, Eos gastroenteritis, endoscopic sclerotherapy
  • Giant ulcers suggest CMV or HIV
  • Risk: immunocompromised, delayed esophageal emptying(scleroderma, achalasia, s/p fudoplication), antibiotics
